Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I)
The Rome I Regulation No 593/2008 ("Rome I Regulation") provides the conflict-of-laws rules for the applicable law to contractual obligations in civil and commercial matters. The Rome I Regulation replaced Convention 80/934/ECC on the law applicable to contractual obligations ("Rome Convention") of 19 June 1980. Jurisprudence on the Rome Convention on corresponding articles to the Rome I Regulation can therefore be consulted for its interpretation. The Rome I Regulation applies to all Member States except Denmark. The rules laid down apply from 17 December 2009 to contractual obligations which were concluded from that date. For contractual obligations concluded before this date, including those in relation to Denmark, the Rome Convention still applies.
